Flex couplings for use with PVC pipe and cast iron pipe as well as other common plumbing materials such as CPVC, PVDF, PP, ABS, PEX pipe, copper and other metal piping. Flex couplings are used to join two sections of pipe or fittings together without the use of solvent cement or other welding methods. Flex couplers can also be used to join two lengths of pipe that differ in their diameter size or construction material. Flex couplings come in standard full length diameter style and in flex reducer coupling style. Reducer couplings have one open joint that is 1 – 2 inches smaller than the other to allow connecting two pipes with different sizes. Flexible couplings are designed to flex fit over plumbing ends for quick, easy hookup and installation. Common flex coupling applications include sewer, vent and fluid handling connections for drains, wastes, exhaust, ventilation, repairs, additions, inbound and outbound delivery lines within home residences, commercial business, industrial structures, institutional facilities.

Available flex couplings are manufactured by Fernco Inc® in the USA. Fernco® flex couplings have earned a reputation for providing superior consistence, performance and quality. Flex coupling sleeves are lightweight, easy to use, flexible, lead free, removable and reusable as needed. They are made from an elastomeric PVC rubber construction material and feature two stainless steel tightening bands. Bands are used to tighten over joints and form strong, reliable, leak-proof seals that protect system plumbing from infiltration and exfiltration. Flexible PVC couplings have been engineered to be resistant against many forms of chemical corrosion and attack, against rust, rot, fungus, sewer gases and the damage that can occur from sunlight UV exposure. Due to their overall corrosion resistance and durability, flex couplings are also rated and approved for underground use.

Flexible PVC couplings are made and manufactured in conformance to ASTM D5926, C1173 and CSA B602 industry standards. They are not NSF 61 rated for potable water applications and should be used for non-potable water, air, fume, exhaust and chemical handling only. Flex coupling sizes come in 1 1/2” up to 18” in diameter. Flex reducer couplings come in 3", 4", 6", 8", 10" and 12" sizes. Flex couplings have a maximum service use temperature up to 140°F (non-consistent), and a minimum recommended service temperature of -30°F. Stainless steel clamp bands are rust-proof, corrosion resistant and designed to be tightened to 60 inch-lbs of torque to provide a firm seal. Flex couplings are rated to a maximum test pressure of 4.3 PSI (29.6KPA). Following hookup and prior to full system operation, flex couplings should be tested for leaks and integrity to ensure proper installation.
