PVC Duct Butterfly Dampers
Bidding a job & need contractor pricing?
We've got you covered!

PVC duct butterfly dampers are mechanical devices and ductwork fittings made for controlling flow in duct and air handling systems. Butterfly dampers are used to regulate or block the flow of air or gaseous media transported in a PVC duct system. This control allows the rate of air delivery to be adjusted to different parts of a building or system and provides operator control over system performance. The butterfly damper uses a simple mechanism of a central disc, the damper, to rotate around a fixed 90° axis. This axis allows the damper to rotate between either fully opened or fully closed depending on the angle the disc is set. When the damper is fully open, air can pass through freely, and when the damper is closed, airflow is significantly reduced. PVC duct butterfly dampers are designed for precision airflow regulation to control the efficiency of ventilation systems, prevent backdrafts, and isolate sections of a ductwork system for maintenance or workflow operations.
These butterfly dampers are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a lightweight and corrosion resistant plastic, making the fittings suitable for corrosive applications involving chemical gasses, exhausts, or moisture. The dampers feature a stainless steel locking quadrant for permanent position set, have all plastic internal parts, and offer an approximate 95% seal with a less than 5% air-flow restriction. They can be installed either vertically or horizontally within PVC duct pipelines.
These are USA made PVC duct butterfly dampers built by Harrison Machine and Plastic under the trade name SUPERDUCT®, one of the nation’s top manufacturers and brands of thermoplastic ductwork. SUPERDUCT® butterfly dampers are to be used with air and compatible gaseous media in open air, non-pressurized applications only. They are not for use in pressure systems, with liquids, or with known incompatible chemicals. Always verify chemical compatibility prior to use.
PVC Duct Butterfly Damper Sizes and Options
PVC duct butterfly damper sizes range from 2″ up to 24″ in Iron Pipe Size (IPS) diameter. Large duct dampers are available on request in a range of sizes up to 60″ in diameter. PVC duct butterfly dampers come with either belled end socket type connections or spigot type connection joints. For installation, use of a professional quality PVC cement and primer is recommended for a secure fit on duct fittings up to 14″ in size. Hot air welding is recommended for duct fittings larger than 14″ in size.

Applications and Uses
Common applications and uses for PVC duct butterfly dampers include industrial exhaust systems, HVAC systems, chemical processing plants, and other work scenarios where airflow needs to be precisely controlled or where corrosive media needs to be handled. The dampers are used in residential and commercial buildings for general ventilation and air conditioning systems. They are used in exhaust systems to control airflow and prevent backdrafts common in kitchens, bathrooms, and laboratories where fumes or moisture need to be removed. In laboratories, butterfly dampers help control airflow within fume hoods.
Harrison PVC SUPERDUCT® butterfly dampers are a leading choice in quality and performance, trusted by professionals for decades. They are precision engineered to deliver the reliable, long lasting service that ductwork systems require.
