Double Containment Fittings
Bidding a job & need contractor pricing?
We've got you covered!

Double containment fittings are specialized plumbing components used to provide an additional layer of protection against leaks and spills, particularly in systems that handle hazardous or corrosive materials and liquids such as chemicals. Double containment fittings are the ultimate solution for applications that need to transport fluids efficiently with improved safety. Designed as a dual pipe system, double containment (DC) fittings consist of an inner carrier pipe encased within a secondary containment pipe. This provides an extra layer of protection that significantly reduces the risk of environmental release, contamination, or personnel exposure. Their innovative design ensures that any potential leaks from the carrier pipe due to corrosion, plumbing failure, or accidents are contained.
Double containment fittings are engineered to handle both the pressure requirements of the carrier line and the containment needs of the secondary line to maintain safety and compatibility across various applications. DC fittings are primarily used to transport liquids where their release could pose a significant hazard. They are commonly used in industrial, commercial, and municipal worksites to mitigate risk concerns and comply with laws, regulatory codes, and environmental protection requirements. Double containment fittings are engineered to meet the highest safety, reliability, and production standards and are ideal for use in chemical processing plants, water treatment facilities, and product manufacturing.
Double Containment Fitting Sizes and Options
Double containment fittings are available in a complete range of sizes from 1/2ʺ x 2ʺ up to 8ʺ x 12ʺ in pipe diameter with additional sizes available on request. DC fitting sizes vary by fitting type and configuration. Sizes are referenced in carrier pipe x containment pipe order. Double containment fittings come in full SCH 40, full SCH 80, and combination SCH 40 x SCH 80 thickness standards.
Double containment fitting types include double containment tees, elbows, couplings, closures, centralizers, termination fittings, union closures, and valve boxes. Available DC fittings come in either PVC or CPVC material construction. Centralizer fittings are of polypropylene (PP) construction.
DC pipe fittings have standard socket joints for joining outer containment pipes and extended socket joints for connecting inner carrier pipe components. Double containment fittings can be installed using professional, material appropriate primer and cement. The fittings can be connected to traditional PVC pipe, CPVC pipe, or with clear pipe for both carrier and containment lines.
Technical Specifications
Our double containment fittings are made in the USA by Spears Manufacturing®. They are built using standard Spears® pressure fittings and are designed to be assembled onsite. Spears® DC fittings are precision engineered components manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility using industrial strength polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC). Their material profile provides heavy duty physical strength and impact tolerance, chemical compatibility, and environmental corrosion resistance. The fittings offer a SCH40 or SCH80 working pressure range and are suitable for operating temperatures up to 200°F (93°C), depending on the material selection.

Features and Benefits
Double containment fittings are engineered for superior protection and reliability in fluid transport systems. Their dual pipe design offers enhanced safety through built-in containment to capture leaks and allow repairs, avoiding release or exposure. The fittings have excellent chemical resistance, making them suitable for various applications. Secondary containment pipe fittings are formulated and designed to withstand mechanical impact and working stress to provide long term service. They are easy to install, reducing collective installation time and labor costs for a double containment pipe system.
- • Enhanced Safety: Dual containment, secondary barrier design to protect personnel, equipment, and the environment.
- • Chemical Resistance: PVC and CPVC material for compatibility with a wide range of corrosive chemicals.
- • Durability: Engineered for long term performance with high impact and stress resistance.
- • Leak Detection: Compatible with various leak detection systems for proactive maintenance and preventative safety.
- • Ease of Installation: Slip on sockets and prefabricated components reduce install time and labor costs.
- • Lightweight: Low weight synthetics make for easy transport and handling.
- • Compliance: Built to meet regulatory codes for containment and release prevention in hazardous material applications.
