Gate Valves

Gate valves are barrier type pipe valves used to provide secure closure and fluid shutoff with nearly unrestricted media flow when open. Also known as sluice or isolation valves, the gate valve uses a raising and lowering wedge style barrier to completely open or close a pipeline. This design ensures minimal pressure drop when the valve is fully open, making them ideal for systems that need to maintain full flow capacity. While not recommended for throttling due to their raise-lower mechanism and potential vibration concerns, gate valves provide superior isolation strength and flow force security in on/off applications. This valve type is ideal for piping systems that need full control of specific plumbing routes and fluid flow directions.

Our selection includes high performance gate valves made from premium PVC thermoplastic (ASTM D1784) with durable polypropylene handles. These materials offer resistance to rust, corrosion, and chemical damage for long service life across various working conditions. These valves are designed with a non-rising stem to eliminate the need for stem nut retightening and are compact enough for tight installations.

Common Industry Uses

Gate valves are suitable for both above ground and underground installations. They are commonly used in water and wastewater treatment, aquaculture, chemical processing and handling, marine environments, mining, and oil and gas pipelines

The gate valve is a barrier type pipe valve often used to provide secure closure and fluid shutoff as well as nearly unrestricted media flow when open. The gated valve, also called a shut off valve, sluice valve or isolation valve, uses a wedge or gate style barrier that raises and lowers for turning flow on or off. This valve type is ideal for piping systems that need control of specific plumbing routes and fluid flow directions, increased valve shutoff security and strength against the flow force experienced at the shutoff gate. They are not the most recommended for flow rate throttling due to their up-and-down design and potential vibration issues.

We offer gated valves made from high-grade PVC thermoplastic manufactured according to ASTM D1784. They are rated to handle fluid temperatures up to 140° F (60° C). Turn handles are made from quality polypropylene. Both materials offer rust proof performance and excellent resistance against corrosion from chemicals and water as well as durability from impacts and worker damage. These gated valves come with a non rising stem that eliminates the need to retighten the stem nut. Gate valve diameter sizes range from 1/2 inch up to 4 inches. Valve working pressures are rated between 150 PSI up to 235 PSI.

Gated valves are available in socket and threaded plumbing connection styles. The socket gate valve (SOC) has a smooth inner wall at the connection port to allow easy insertion of incoming plumbing or fixtures. The socket style requires connection by use of glue or other welding methods. The threaded gate valve (THD) has inner ridges that allow screw-type connections.

Gated valves are suitable for use in both above ground and under ground installations. They are frequently used in oil and gas pipelines. Gated valves are also widely used in water and wastewater treatment, aquatics, animal support systems, chemical production, chemical handling, corrosive environments, marine, marina, maritime applications, mining, oil and gas and petrochemical refinery.

Our gated valves are made by America’s top plumbing manufacturers according to strict quality standards per ISO, ANSI and ASTM. The PVC and polypropylene used are pure materials approved per NSF 61 for potable water delivery and handling systems. The PVC casing and EPDM or Viton gaskets will not contaminate or leach into drinking water and inhibit the growth of microorganisms and biofilms. They are guaranteed lead free and safe for use, offering great security for your individual application.
