CPVC duct butterfly dampers are ductwork fittings with a built-in mechanical device used to regulate airflow in ventilation systems. They feature an internal disc (the butterfly) that can pivot between open or closed to control the flow of air or gaseous media through the ventilation network. The interior butterfly is a rotating circular disc mounted on a rod within the fitting. When the disc is turned parallel with the duct, the damper is fully open and air flows freely. When the disc is rotated perpendicular to the duct path, the damper blocks and restricts airflow. The damper disc can be rotated and set to any angle between 0° and 90°, allowing precise control over ventilation in the ductwork system. CPVC duct butterfly dampers are used to restrict, reduce, or allow airflow in industrial and commercial HVAC systems that require flow rate management. They are used for their control efficiency, ease of installation and use, and minimal impact on overall flow dynamics in systems where quick adjustments and maintaining worksite conditions are necessary to safety and operations.

CPVC duct butterfly dampers are made from Corzan CPVC, a heavy duty, lightweight thermoplastic with a high working temperature and improved chemical corrosion resistance. The dampers feature stainless steel locking hardware for setting the disc position. All internal parts are CPVC plastic. The dampers provide an approximate 95% seal allowing for less than 5% restriction in total airflow.

These are USA made CPVC duct fittings built by Harrison Machine and Plastic® under the trade name SUPERDUCT®, one of the nation’s top manufacturers and brands of thermoplastic ductwork. SUPERDUCT® butterfly dampers are to be used with air and compatible gaseous media in open air, non-pressurized applications only. They are not for use in pressure systems, with liquids, or with known incompatible chemicals. Always verify chemical compatibility prior to use.

CPVC Duct Butterfly Damper Sizes and Options

CPVC duct butterfly damper sizes range from 2″ to 24″ in diameter. They are Iron Pipe Size (IPS) standard fittings for use with IPS or Schedule 40 ductwork. Connection options include belled end socket or spigot ends. When installing duct fittings up to 14" in size, a professional CPVC primer and solvent cement are recommended. For duct fittings over 14″ in size, hot air welding is recommended to create a secure, long lasting connection. CPVC duct butterfly dampers can be installed horizontally or vertically.

Technical Specifications

CPVC duct butterfly dampers are fabricated from industrial grade quality Corzan® CPVC material per ASTM D1784. CPVC duct dampers are tested to ASTM standards and rated to meet high performance properties for material purity, physical strength, chemical resistance, fire and flame spread resistance, and elevated working temperatures.

Applications and Uses

CPVC duct butterfly dampers are commonly used in industrial ventilation systems to control exhaust and supply air in chemical processing plants, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities. They are used in commercial and industrial HVAC systems to regulate airflow when moving air or gasses for distribution, treatment, or removal. In fume extraction, the dampers are used to manage the removal of hazardous or corrosive fumes from work areas and maintain a safe working environment. In environmental control applications, such as in clean rooms and research labs, CPVC duct butterfly dampers are used to provide control over air quality and temperature.
